ATA Applauds Modernizing ATC Aspect of U.S. Initiative to Conserve Energy
The U.S. Air Transport Association of America (ATA) is applauding the U.S. Secure America's Future Energy (SAFE) program's recognition that energy can be conserved by modernizing the FAA's air traffic control system.

Qantas Makes First Commercial Landing Using Augmented GPS
Airservices Australia reports a Qantas B-737-800, operating as QF flight 513 from Brisbane to Sydney, became the first commercial flight to use GPS along with a GBAS (ground-based augmentation system) for guidance on it final approach to landing.

 

Air France Adopts Boeing's Airplane Health Management System
Air France has adopted for Boeing's Airplane Health Management (AHM) system for its 42 B-777s and 21 B-747s.

Embraer Selects CMC Electronics' Electronic Flight Bag
Embraer will equip its new Legacy 600s, E-Jets family, and Lineage 1000s with CMC Electronics' EFBs (electronic flight bags).

 

ACROHELIPRO Obtains STC to Upgrade Sikorsky S61 Cockpits
ACROHELIPRO Global Services (ACRO), a subsidiary of Vector Aerospace Corporation, has obtained a STC (supplemental type certificate), enabling it to upgrade Sikorsky S61 helicopters with a Rockwell-Collins "glass cockpit" and AHRS (attitude heading reference system).

Silver Lake Partners and Texas Pacific Group (TPG) will acquire Sabre Holdings in a transaction valued at approximately $5 billion.

Cyprus Turkish Airlines to Use Sabre's Rocade Operations Suite
Cyprus-based Kibris Turk Hava Yollari (KTHY) signed a seven-year agreement with Sabre Airline Solutions to provide for a number of passenger services and operational management applications that includes Sabre's Rocade Operations Suite for aircraft and crew management.

JetBlue Renews and Expands Use of Sabre's Operational Solutions
JetBlue Airways is expanding it use of applications from Sabre Airline Solutions to help optimize its flight operations, crew management and resource management capabilities.  This follows JetBlue's decision to participate in the Sabre Travel Network global distribution system (GDS).

 

Flight Safety Technologies to Demonstrate Its Wake Predictive System
Flight Safety Technologies plans to show a "canned emulation" of its Aircraft Wake Safety Management (AWSM) in early 2007, based on aircraft arrival data recorded in earlier tests.  A beta-site development at Denver's international airport could follow later in the same year.

Runway Technologies Awarded Patent for Debris Detection System
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office awarded a patent to Runway Technologies for its optical-laser system that can monitor runways for debris and runway incursions.

Eurocontrol Says Its Air Traffic Safety Has Improved
Eurocontrol says a new survey it commissioned shows that air traffic safety has continued to improve in Europe since the accidents at Linate in 2001 and Uberlingen in 2002.

 

U.K. Consortium Working On New Technologies to Dramatically Reduce Aircraft Fuel Burn
A consortium of 17 U.K. organizations is working on a slate of new aircraft technologies aimed at cutting present day fuel consumption in half by 2020, and reducing emissions and noise by a similar amount.

Hainan Airlines has selected Thales IFE (in-flight entertainment) systems for its seven new A330s and for its forthcoming B-787s as well.

Rannoch Corporation has acquired BAE System's airport noise and operations monitoring system (NOMS), known has TAMIS, which is deployed at some of the world's largest airports including Atlanta, Dallas, Phoenix, Baltimore, and New York.
