Jamaica Selects Ubitech's Message Handling for Aeronautical Information
The Jamaica
Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) will migrate its ATS (air
traffic services) messaging operations from the AFTN
(aeronautical fixed telecommunication network) to Ubitech's AMHS
(aeronautical telecommunication network message handling
system).

Transport Canada Raises Minimums for Commencing an Approach
Transport Canada has increased the minimum
visibility required before beginning an approach from the previous 1,200 feet to
1,600 feet, effective December 1.
Four New WAAS Ground Stations Operational in Alaska
The FAA's Mary Ann Davis
reports that four new WAAS (wide area augmentation system) ground stations
have come on line and are operational in Alaska to give expanded satellite
navigation coverage there.

Virgin
Atlantic will evaluate towing departing aircraft to a
holding area, close to their takeoff runway before starting

Airbus has awarded Parker
Hannifin Corporation contracts for fuel tank inerting systems for its A400M

London Heathrow has
launched a new trial of biometric passenger screening at its Terminal 3 to
see how such technology can simplify passenger airport security procedures.
Ottawa Airport Testing Searidge Technologies' Surface Detection System
Ottawa International Airport is evaluating a
new system, developed by Searidge Technologies, that detects and tracks
aircraft, vehicles, humans and other objects, on an airport with a network of
"low cost" digital imaging sensors and computer vision technology.
