EASA Approves Head-Up Display for A318s; Other Models to Follow
The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has approved the installation and use of a HUD (head-up display)
on the A318 fitted with Pratt & Whitney PW6000 engines. Airbus says the approval
will subsequently be extended to the other members of the A320 Family, and
certification activities are on-going for A330s, A340s and A380s.
Cobham to Acquire S-TEC
Cobham plc, which operates as a worldwide supplier to aviation companies, is purchasing S-TEC Corporation
from Meggitt plc for $38 million (U.S.). The purchase should be completed before
end of the year, following regulatory approval. |

Eurocontrol Outlines Military UAV-Use Specifications
Eurocontrol has published ATM (air traffic management) specifications setting out how military UAVs (unmanned
aerial vehicles) should fly in European airspace. |

MountainScope ADS-B Displays Surpass 100,000 Hours of Use
PCAvionics, which has been working with the FAA's Capstone program since 2003 to develop portable ADS-B
(automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast) displays, says its MountainScope
pocket PC has over 100,000 hours of use.
Czech ANS Using Era Interface to Accelerate Surveillance Modernization
Czech ANS, the ANSP (air navigation service provider) of the Czech Republic, is using an Era Interface to
output multilateration data as ADS-B-like information so that all aircraft can
be tracked through Eurocontrol's ARTAS, (ATC radar tracker and server), even if
they don't have ADS-B avionics.

L-3 Teams With GE Aviation on KC-10 Aircraft Extension Program
L-3 Communications' Integrated Systems (L-3 IS) subsidiary has signed an exclusive teaming agreement
with GE Aviation to bid on the U.S. Air Force's KC-10 AEP (aircraft extension
program) to ensure that the aircraft meet developing CNS/ATM (communications,
navigation, surveillance/air traffic management) requirements. |

IATA: Global Travel Hampered by Slow U.S. Capacity Improvements
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) called for the White House and Congressional

France's civil aviation authority, the DGAC, has certified CAE's Tropos -6000 visual system and LCoS
(liquid crystal on silicon) projectors on a CAE-built A320 FFS (full-flight
simulator) for Air France. CAE says this certification of a fixed-matrix LCoS
is an industry first. |
