FAA's ARC: Incentives Are Needed to Expedite ADS-B Equipage
The ADS-B Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC), a group of industry and government experts formed by the FAA
Administrator, believes that "some combination of financial incentives and
operational benefits will be needed to significantly accelerate ADS-B [automatic
dependent surveillance-broadcast] equipage before the compliance date of the
FAA's recently proposed rule."
FAA Says ERAM on Budget and Ahead of Schedule
The FAA says its ERAM (en route automation modernization) program, meant to increase airspace
capacity by enabling air traffic controllers to track more aircraft at high
altitudes, is on budget and six months ahead of schedule. Lockheed Martin is
the system's contractor. |

SkyEurope Working with Naverus to Prepare for RNP
Bratislava, Slovakia-based SkyEurope Airlines has engaged Naverus to assess its readiness to perform RNP
(required navigation performance) in anticipation of its commencing these
advanced operations with its fleet of fourteen B-737-700s.
Spectralux's GPS WAAS Sensor Being Used in Two More GA Programs
Eclipse Aviation and L3 Avionics Systems have chosen Spectralux Corporation's WAAS (wide area augmentation system) sensor for navigation systems. These
developments follow Chelton Flight Systems' earlier decision to use the system
in its satellite navigation receiver.
Chelton ADAHRS Sensor Approved for Bell 206s and 407s
Chelton Flight Systems' ADAHRS (air data and attitude heading reference system) sensor has been
approved for Bell 206 and Bell 407 as part of FlightLogic's EFIS (electronic
flight instrument system) STC (supplemental type certificate) for the helicopter
models.

ALPA: Pilots Need a Better Tool to Assess Runway Braking
The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) says that while it supports the U.S. National Transportation
Safety Board's (NTSB's) recent recommendation to require an assessment of
landing distance performance before every approach, based upon current runway
conditions and the aircraft's braking ability, "an effective tool" is needed to
do this.
