Naverus to Help Copa Airlines Assess Its Readiness for RNP
Copa Airlines has engaged Naverus to perform an RNP (required navigation performance) "readiness assessment," which will evaluate a number of determining factors for the Panamanian airline, including operational, safety and financial benefits, and compliance with RNP regulatory requirements.

 

Eurocontrol Again Selects COMSOFT for CAMOS
For the second time Eurocontrol has selected COMSOFT as its industrial partner for its CAMOS (centralized ARTAS (ATC radar tracker and server) maintenance and operational support service). The first contract was awarded in 2001.

NATS Upgrading Its Radar Control and Monitoring System
A new control and monitoring system, supplied by COMSOFT, has become operational at the NATS radar site in Debden, U.K. as part of the RSS (radar support system) upgrade program the British ATSP (air traffic service provider) started in 2004.

FAA Selects ITT Team to Implement NextGen ADS-B
The FAA has selected a team led by ITT Corporation to implement its nationwide ADS-B (automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast) structure.  ADS-B is one of the most important components of the agency's highly anticipated Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen).

 

ADS-B and Multilateration Optimization Patent Awarded to Era
Era has been awarded a patent that includes methods of ADS-B (automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast) tracking and multilateration.  The patent addresses methods of filtering redundant transponder signals, and time-stamping them, before forwarding the information to air traffic control and other users.

Correction Notice
A recent Flt Tech Online story, “U.S. Safety Leaders Agree on Short-Term Runway Incursion Plan,” referenced the wrong company in regard to the CAMS (critical area management system) at Spokane International Airport.

Flt Tech Online identified CAMS as being a system of Stonefield Systems, when in fact it is solely a Transtech system.   At one time, Stonefield Systems was Transtech's UK agent, but they no longer represent Transtech or its technologies.

Flt Tech Online regrets this error and has made a correction to the original story on our Website.

Dr. Paul MacCready, "Father of Human-Powered Flight," Dies at 81
Internationally renowned innovator and entrepreneur Dr. Paul MacCready, the founder and former chairman of AeroVironment, Inc., died on August 28 at the age of 81.  His passing occurred less than one week after the 30th anniversary of one of his most notable accomplishments, the record-setting flight of his human-powered Gossamer Condor airplane.
