DAPRA Asks Goodrich Unit to Continue Developing Infrared Technology
The Microsystems Development Office of the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects
Agency (DARPA) has asked Goodrich Corporation's Sensors Unlimited Inc. (SUI) to
continue developing an emerging technology that that could be used in passive
EVS (enhanced vision systems).

Jeppesen says it will participate in a FAA
pilot program that allows third-party vendors to develop
RNP (required
navigation performance) flight procedures in the U.S.
Air China Gets Approval for Airbus RNP Operations
Air China received approval to conduct
RNP (required navigation performance) operations with its A319s, and
flew its first RNP departure from Lhasa, China, on August 23, marking the first
time an Airbus aircraft has used RNP in revenue service. |

FAA and Alaska Aviation Groups Agree on ADS-B Equipage Plan
The FAA and various Alaskan
aviation groups have agreed on a plan that would facilitate the equipage of
ADS-B (automatic dependent surveillance- broadcast) avionics equipage on as many
as 4,000 aircraft in that state.

U.S. Safety Leaders Agree on Short-Term Runway Incursion Plan
At a meeting called by FAA Administrator Marion Blakey earlier
this month, more than 40 aviation leaders from airlines, airports, air traffic
control and pilot unions, aerospace manufacturers, and the agency, agreed to
quickly implement a five point short-term plan to reduce runway incursions at
some of America's busiest airports.
GAO Study: VLJs Will Be Safe, But Opinions Vary on Capacity Affect
A new report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) concludes while experts have varying
opinions about how very light jets will affect airspace capacity, most believe
VLJs will have little overall effect on safety.
