FAA Clarifies Back-Up Policy for EFB Electronic Charts
The FAA has issued an advisory circular which confirms that electronic charts used in either installed or portable displays, such as EFBs (electronic flight bags), can be used in lieu of traditional paper charts, and that no back-up information is required - although it's recommended.

New Emirates Boeings to Have Inflight Maintenance Support Systems
Emirates will use Boeing's AHM (airplane health management) and Maintenance Performance Toolbox maintenance-support systems on its growing fleet of B-777s and new 747-8s.

American Airlines will begin testing AirCell's high-speed broadband connectivity for passengers on its B-767-200s that fly primarily fly transcontinental routes in 2008.

 

TSA to Test New Passenger Imaging Technologies
The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will begin testing millimeter wave imaging machines, as well as additional backscatter machines, meant to detect weapons, explosives and other metallic and non-metallic threat items concealed under layers of clothing, without having to make physical contact.

 

Moscow's Sheremetyevo Deploying ARINC Check-In Kiosks
Moscow's Sheremetyevo is deploying ARINC CUSS (common use self-service) passenger kiosks, becoming the first Russian airport to deploy the technology.

AOPA Report: New Technology GA Aircraft Proportionately Safer
