Blakey Divulges Southwest Airlines' RNP Plans
FAA Administrator Marion Blakey revealed this week that Southwest Airlines intends to equip its entire fleet with any necessary avionics needed to perform RNP (required navigation performance) procedures and begin the qualification process necessary to fly them.

Singapore to Retrofit Its B-777s with Rockwell Collins' Newest Satcom
Singapore Airlines will retrofit, as well as forward fit, its B-777s with Rockwell Collins' latest high-speed satellite data transceiver, partly to facilitate its newly installed EFB (electronic flight bag) system. The program will involve 58 aircraft.

 

Mode S Elementary Surveillance Operational at Maastricht UAC
Eurocontrol's Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (UAC) has deployed ELS (Mode S ("select") elementary surveillance) radar data for the cross-border upper airspace using data from three Mode S radars in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.

Light Blue Optics (LBO) has agreed to provide Thales with engineering samples of its miniature laser projection system as part of a collaboration to produce advanced cockpit displays.

EMTEQ Adding Certified Installations: Including RAAS, ADS-B and TAWS
EMTEQ says the FAA is about to approve several of its new installations, including a RAAS (runway awareness advisory system) on Boeing 757s and 767s, an ADS-B (automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast) for Saab 340Bs, and a TAWS (terrain awareness and warning system) for L-382s (a civilian version of the Lockheed Martin C-130).

ANA Getting Boeing's Class 3 EFBs on Three New B-777ERs
Boeing is installing its class-3 EFB (electronic flight bag) on three new 777-300ERs being delivered to ANA this year, the first of which went to the Japanese carrier in April.
