First Air Uses Universal Avionics' WAAS-FMS for LPV Approach in Canada
A First Air B-737-200 recently conducted a LPV (localizer performance with vertical guidance) approach with a Universal Avionics' WAAS-FMS (wide area augmentation system-flight management system) at the Region of Waterloo International Airport in Ontario, Canada.

 

Helsinki to Deploy Thales Multilateration Surveillance System

Qantas to Use Boeing's Health Monitoring System on 747-400s and 787s

FAA Advancing Several Runway Safety Initiatives with Industry
In a March 25 speech to invited industry representatives in Washington, D.C., FAA Acting Administrator Robert A. Sturgell announced that the agency is considering a public-private partnership that would make available up to $5 million to enter into cost-sharing, cooperative agreements with industry to "better analyze the benefits of current cockpit runway safety technologies."

 

U.K.'s Communications Regulator to Approve Airborne Mobile Phone Use
The U.K.'s Office of Communications (Ofcom) has confirmed it plans to allow airlines to offer mobile communication services on U.K.-registered aircraft once the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Britain's Civil Aviation Authority give their go-ahead.

Qantas to Offer Text Connectivity for All Domestic Passengers
Qantas says it will allow its domestic passengers to send and receive email and SMS (short message service) text messages via their GSM (global system for mobile) phones or PDAs (personal digital assistants) later this year.
