Nav Canada to Expand Its ADS-B Deployment with Sensis Ground Units
Nav Canada will expand its Sensis ADS-B (automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast) ground-based transceiver deployment to include the coasts of Labrador and Baffin Island, in addition to the current Sensis installations at Vancouver Harbour, Fort St. John and Hudson Bay.

QinetiQ and COMSOFT Expanding Their ADS-B Partnership

Thailand Selects Era for Nationwide ADS-B Network
Thailand's ANSP (air navigation service provider), Aerothai, has selected Era to provide a nationwide ADS-B (automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast) network to provide comprehensive airborne surveillance coverage throughout Thailand and much of its surrounding territory.

COMSOFT to Upgrade Ireland's ETFMS Gateways
COMSOFT will upgrade the Irish Aviation Authority's ETFMS (enhanced tactical flow management system).  ETFMS uses surveillance and flight-plan data from cooperating ANSPs (air navigation service providers) to provide IAA with a constantly updated representation of the traffic situation over Europe and adjacent airspace.

Airways New Zealand Selects Era for Surveillance Applications
Airways New Zealand has selected Era Corporation to provide wide-area surveillance surrounding Queenstown and the airport surface at Auckland.

 

Brazil Partnering with SITA to Introduce ADS and CPDLC in South Atlantic
Brazil's Departamento de Controle do Espaço Aéreo (DECEA) is partnering with SITA to introduce ADS-C (automatic dependent surveillance-contract) and CPDLC (controller-pilot datalink communications) in the Atlantico FIR (flight information region), which covers more than 13 million square kilometers in the South Atlantic region.

Wingspeed's Airborne Communications System Certified on ABX Air B-767s
The FAA has granted ABX Air a STC (supplemental type certificate) for the installation of Wingspeed Corporation's voice and data communication system on its B-767-200 SFs (special freighters).

 

Jeppesen Flight Planning System to Offer GPS RAIM Prediction
Jeppesen has added a RAIM (receiver autonomous integrity monitoring) request to its flight planning service that will enable its customers to comply with a new requirement to add a RAIM prediction report to their flight plan.  Aircraft operators, who use GPS as a primary navigation method, will be required to comply with this rule by March 31, 2008.

Singapore Signs for Jeppesen Carmen Crew Software
Singapore Airlines has selected Jeppesen's Carmen crew scheduling software to help manage the activities of more than 9,000 pilot and cabin crew members. The initial contract term is five years and includes an option to be used by its SilkAir subsidiary.

 

EASA Approves NavAero's EFB for SAS B-737s
The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has granted a STC (supplemental type certificate) to Saab Aerotech Aircraft Services for navAero's EFB (electronic flight bag) on all classic and next-generation B-737 models from 300s to 900s.  SAS cooperated in the project.

 

Interjet Selects Teledyne Controls' Data Systems for FOQA
Mexico-based Interjet will use Teledyne Controls' FDIMU (flight data interface management unit) and WQAR (wireless quick access recorder) to support its A320 FOQA (flight operations quality assurance) program.

 

Sarasota Bradenton to Use Flight Explorer ASD in Multiple Roles
Florida's Sarasota Bradenton (SQR) airport will use Flight Explorer's ASD (aircraft situation display) system in its operations center, its public Web site, and on multiple graphical displays throughout its passenger terminal facilities.

Report Asserts Technology Can Increase Airport Capacity
A new Reason Foundation study states that capacity could be dramatically increased at a number of America's busiest airports with new technologies that include RNP (required navigation performance), ADS-B (automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast), CDAs (continuous descent approaches), and SAMM (surface area movement management).

 

FAA Renews JDA's Certification Consultant Agreement
The FAA has renewed JDA's Certification Consultant Agreement which allows it to assist new carriers with the process of becoming certified under Part 121 of U.S. FARs (federal air regulations), which covers airlines.  JDA's FAA recognition runs through October 2009.
