Six States and Eurocontrol Meet on New European Airspace Structure
Six European states along
with their ANSPs (air navigation service providers) and Eurocontrol have met
formally for the first time to discuss how they collectively will create
functional airspace blocks (FABs) to improve airspace capacity over the
continent. |

Sofreavia/SITA to Supply Datalink Gateway for Europe's CPDLC
Eurocontrol and DFS,
Germany's ANSP (air navigation service provider), have contracted with the
Sofreavia/SITA consortium to supply its next generation of datalink gateway
systems known as DL-FEP (datalink front end processor). |

Alaska May Be Getting New ADS-B Equipage Program
According to a
report in the Alaska Journal of
Commerce, the FAA and several Alaskan aviation groups have signed
an agreement that would equip up to 5,000 Alaska-based general aviation and
commercial aircraft with ADS-B (automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast)
avionics. (Although the Journal report didn't explicitly say so, it could be
inferred that FIS-B (flight information system-broadcast) capability would
be included as well.)
COMSOFT Delivers ADS-B Message Software to Eurocontrol
COMSOFT says it has
delivered a new version of software for its RMCDE (radar message
conversion and distribution equipment) to Eurocontrol for final testing
before being released to other interested users.
Lyon Airport to Get Thales ADS-B Vehicle Tracking System
The technical department
of DSNA, the French ANSP (air navigation services provider), has awarded
Thales a contract to implement a cooperative ADS-B (automatic dependent
surveillance-broadcast) system to track surface vehicles on Lyon-Saint
Exupéry's airport.
Dublin Airport Getting Era Surface Surveillance
The Irish Aviation
Authority (IAA) has selected Era's MSS (multilateration surface
surveillance) technology for Dublin's airport.
Lockheed Martin to Upgrade Romanian Radars
The Romanian Ministry of
Defense (MoD) has awarded Lockheed Martin a contract to upgrade five
long-range AN/FPS-117 radars originally delivered to Romania in 1998 and
1999. The radars are used for air traffic control and strategic air
surveillance. |

Emirates Using New Casses Weather Product
Emirates is using a new
Casses meteorology product on its long range flights that provides a mosaic
of significant weather images displayed along the route with the
ability to zoom in on an area of operation. |

Thales UK Partnering with Inmarsat on Satellite Broadband Service
Thales UK has agreed to
distribute Inmarsat's BGAN (broadband global area network) mobile satellite
broadband service under the branding names of BeSecure, BeFree, BeGlobal,

The Southern
AeroMedical Institute (SAMI) is partnering with the Delta Connection
Academy to jointly develop and operate a cabin depressurization training
program for pilots and flight attendants. |

EMTEQ Receives FAA and VSTC Approvals for Multiple Installations
EMTEQ has been awarded
three new STCs (supplement type certificates) from the FAA, and three
Chinese authority airworthiness approvals, called VSTCs, for communications
and navigation installations.
L2 Consulting Services Awarded STC for Honeywell RAAS on B-757
The FAA granted L2
Consulting Services (L2) a STC (supplemental type certificate) for its
Honeywell RAAS (runway awareness and advisory system) installation kit on
B-757s, and is making it immediately available for owners and operators of
757-200s, 200PFs, 200CBs and 300s. |

JAL and Nihon Unisys Jointly Develop Cargo Weighing System
Japan Airlines (JAL) and
Nihon Unisys Ltd. (NUL) have jointly developed a system that uses IC
(integrated circuit) tags to determine a cargo container's weight prior to
loading. |
