Air China Approved for RNP Operations at Jiuzhaigou
The Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC) has approved Air China to commence RNP (required navigation performance) procedures at Jiuzhaigou, in the country's western Sichuan Province, following an operational validation.  The flight was conducted in an Air China B-757.

 

Avionica's Wireless Router Certified for A320 Installations
Avionica says the FAA has certified the installation of its wireless router on all A320 family aircraft, through its affiliate, Avionics Support Group.

AirCell's New Transceiver Offers Two More Iridium Channels
AirCell says the FAA has certified a two-channel expansion of its Axxess transceiver that will allow its customer to add two more channels of Iridium Satellite service and to double the number of simultaneous functions available to passengers and flight crews.

 

Garmin Develops VFR Mode-S Transponder to Meet European Requirement
Garmin (Europe) is introducing a new transponder developed to meet Europe's requirement for mode-S capability for aircraft operating under VFR (visual flight rules) after March 31, 2008.

 

Duncan Aviation Anticipates STC for Hawker 800 Pro Line IDS Retrofit
Duncan Aviation is expecting FAA certification soon for a Hawker 800 retrofit project that includes the installation of four AMLCDs (active matrix liquid crystal displays) for primary flight information, and other functions, including electronic engine parameters that will replace the airplane's previous mechanical instruments.

 

Skyservice Airlines Selects Teledyne Controls' Flight Data Services
Skyservice Airlines will use a "premium" version of Teledyne Controls' flight data services to help monitor its fleet.  The outsourced service uses Teledyne's information management resources to analyze the Canadian charter operator's flight data and deliver reports on operational events and trends.

Avionica's Iridium Satcom Certified for B-737s
The FAA has granted the Avionics Support Group (ASG) a STC (supplemental type certificate) for Avionica's Iridium-based satellite communications system.  The company says a similar STC should be available for B-757s as well.

 

Hong Kong Express Selects AD Aerospace Cockpit Door Monitoring
Hong Kong Express Airways' new B-737-800s will be delivered with AD Aerospace's CDMS (cockpit door monitoring system) installed.

 

FAA Institutes New Rules for Taxi-into Position-and-Hold Clearances
The FAA instituted new taxi-into-position-and-hold (TIPH) clearance procedures meant to improve safety by increasing peer oversight and situational awareness for pilots and controllers.  The changes aren't expected to appreciably slow takeoffs and landings.

 

Rannoch Changes Name to Era Corporation
Rannoch Corporation has officially changed its name to Era Corporation, the Czech Republic company it acquired in October last year.

Esterline to Acquire CMC Electronics
Esterline Corporation has agreed to acquire CMC Electronics for approximately $335 million in cash.  The transaction is expected to be completed in 30 to 45 days, pending governmental approvals.

 

Russ Chew Leaving ATO
Russ Chew announced he is leaving the FAA's Air Traffic Organization (ATO) where he has served as its chief operating officer for the last three-and-one-half years.

Rockwell Collins to Supply Avionics System for B-747-8
The Boeing Company has selected Rockwell Collins to provide the entire suite of displays, autopilot, communication, navigation, surveillance, maintenance, emergency and data management systems for its new 747-8 airplane family that is scheduled to enter into service in late 2009.
