Eurocontrol to Begin Implementing SESAR ATM Plan This Year
Eurocontrol has accepted a planning document for implementing three ATM (air
traffic management) packages, designed to increase European airspace capacity
and efficiency starting this year.
Eurocontrol to Simulate VLJ Integration into European Airspace
Eurocontrol is preparing a simulation that will be carried out this year to assess how VLJs (very light
jets) will be integrated into European airspace.
Air Canada Using Lufthansa Systems' Weight and Balance System
Lufthansa Systems has implemented its LoadControl weight and balance system at Air Canada, following a
three-step migration process, and is now using the system at all of its 125 stations worldwide.
DFS and NATS Upgrade Their Surveillance Data Test and Reference Tools
The ANSPs (air navigation service providers) of Germany and Britain, DFS and NATS, have upgraded their
RAPS-II ASTERIX surveillance data test and reference tools with COMSOFT's next
generation RAPS-3 system.
Europe Launches "Clean-Sky" Research Program
Europe has officially launched a seven-year, private-public research program, known as the Clean Sky Joint
Technology Initiative (JTI), whose goal is to develop "breakthrough"
technologies that will reduce the adverse environmental effects of aviation,
while strengthening the competiveness of Europe's aeronautics industry.
Airbus Completes A380 Test Flight with Alternative Fuel
Airbus test flew an A380 using a liquid fuel processed from gas in the first stage of a
program designed to evaluate the environmental impact of alternative fuels for
airlines.
Panel Wants U.S. to Lift Restrictions on In-Flight Passenger Communications
A panel of industry experts believe American airlines may be competitively disadvantaged, when operating
internationally compared to European carriers, because of U.S. government
restrictions on their in-flight Internet connectivity and communication services.
EMS D&SS to Manufacture and Market Starling Antennas to U.S. Airlines
Starling Advanced Communication has agreed to have EMS Defense & Space Systems (D&SS), a
division of EMS Technologies, develop, manufacture and market its new Ku-band
airborne antenna system to U.S. airlines for their in-flight satellite-based communications.
London Gatwick to Use Era's Vehicle Tracking System
NATS will use Era's Squid vehicle tracking units at London's Gatwick to support the airport's A-SMGCS
(advanced surface movement guidance and control system), which will go live this April.
Another Airline Selects AD Aerospace's Cockpit Security
Latvia's airBaltic will install AD Aerospace's video-based cockpit security
systems on its B-737s and 757s.
