AOPA: FAA Should Allow Sole-Source GPS Navigation for Some Receivers
The U.S. Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) wants the FAA to approve the use
of approach-certified GPS receivers as a sole source of navigation. The
general aviation advocacy group put this suggestion on its "wish list" to the
FAA, along with additional operations test methods for VOR, and the use of a
driver's license medical for recreational pilots.

DOT IG Finds Runway Status Lights a Viable Safety Technology
In a recent report the U.S. Department of Transportation's Inspector General (IG) found that the use of RWSL
(runway status lights) is a viable method for preventing runway incursions, but
more must be done before its full deployment can be achieved.
FAA: Significant Progress is Being Made on Airport Safety
The FAA says the U.S. aviation community is taking significant short-term actions to improve
safety at U.S. airports, but recent close calls show that further steps are
needed to reduce the risk of runway incursions and wrong runway departures.
SITA Creates R&D Facility for Aviation Technology Research
SITA has created a technology research facility that will work independently and in
partnership with others to spur innovation for the air transport industry.
Air Berlin Chooses ARINC for Enhanced Connectivity and Type B Network Service
ARINC says it has installed its AviNet MQ Type-B business networking service for Air Berlin.
NavAero Receives STC for Class-2 EFB on MD-80s
NavAero has received a STC (supplemental type certificate) for its class-2 tBagC22 EFB
(electronic flight bag) on MD82s, 83s and 87s.
Lufthansa and Lufthansa Systems to Develop Next-Generation EFB
Lufthansa and Lufthansa Systems say they will jointly develop a next-generation EFB
(electronic flight bag) that can be retrofitted into existing aircraft to
provide pilots with all relevant information needed during a flight, including
navigation charts and current weather data.
East Midlands Airport Selects Era for Environmental Management
The Manchester Airport Group has selected Era's wide-area multilateration and ADS-B
(automatic dependent surveillance- broadcast) to initially provide surveillance
information for East Midland's environmental management program, with the option
to extend its use to support surface and terminal air traffic control
operations.

Rockwell Collins avionics for its B-777-300ER fleet.
Thales to Provide Major Avionics Package for A350
Airbus selected Thales to provide a major package of avionics and cockpit systems for
its new A350 XWB, including the aircraft's integrated modular avionics suite,
interactive control and display systems, and its air data and inertial reference
unit.
