AOPA: FAA Should Allow Sole-Source GPS Navigation for Some Receivers
The U.S. Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) wants the FAA to approve the use
of approach-certified GPS receivers as a sole source of navigation. The
general aviation advocacy group put this suggestion on its "wish list" to the
FAA, along with additional operations test methods for VOR, and the use of a
driver's license medical for recreational pilots. |

DOT IG Finds Runway Status Lights a Viable Safety Technology
In a recent report the U.S. Department of Transportation's Inspector General (IG) found that the use of RWSL
(runway status lights) is a viable method for preventing runway incursions, but
more must be done before its full deployment can be achieved.

Lufthansa and Lufthansa Systems say they will jointly develop a next-generation EFB
(electronic flight bag) that can be retrofitted into existing aircraft to
provide pilots with all relevant information needed during a flight, including

Airbus selected Thales to provide a major package of avionics and cockpit systems for
its new A350 XWB, including the aircraft's integrated modular avionics suite,

unit.
