FAA Approves Gulfstream's PlaneView-Equipped Aircraft for RNP Approaches
The FAA has approved Gulfstream' PlaneView-equipped G550, G500, G450 and G350 business jets to fly RNP SAAAR (required navigation performance special aircraft and aircrew authorization required) approaches.

Goodrich to Develop Next-Generation Night Vision Technology for DARPA
The U.S. Defense Advanced Projects Agency (DARPA) has selected Goodrich Corporation to develop a next-generation night vision sensor technology for helmet-mounted and micro-vehicle applications.

Harris Corporation Licenses Datalink Technology to VT Miltope
Harris Corporation has agreed to license patents to VT Miltope for two of its core wireless communications' inventions that will allow Miltope to offer its aviation customers a wireless LAN (local area network) for transferring data to and from their aircraft.

 

Avidyne and S-TEC Get STC for Alliant Flight Deck on Conquest II
The FAA has awarded Avidyne Corporation and S-TEC Corporation a STC (supplemental type certificate) to retrofit an integrated flight deck into Cessna Conquest IIs.

 

Turkish Airlines to Install AeroMobile Phone System on Single A340
Turkish Airlines will install an AeroMobile phone system on one of its A340s that will allow its passengers to use their GSM (global system for mobile) devices for voice and text, as well as GPRS (general packet radio service) email applications, such as BlackBerry, as if they were on the ground.

Air France Launches OnAir's Phone Service on International Flights
Air France is offering OnAir's mobile phone service on one of its A318s flying European international flights, claiming to be the first airline in the world to offer this service, albeit on a trial basis.

 

United and Boeing Interested in Honeywell's Runway Safety Technology
The Wall Street Journal reports that both United Airlines and Boeing are interested in the runway safety possibilities of Honeywell's RAAS (runway awareness and advisory system), meant to prevent runway incursions, overruns and misidentification.

 

NASA and CAFE Announce New GA Technology Competition
NASA and the CAFE Foundation have announced a new technology "pentaviathon" competition to advance five general aviation technologies aimed at reducing fuel consumption and noise, while increasing speed, safety and ease of use.

DOT Secretary Announces New Proposals to Reduce Flight Delays
U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary E. Peters announced new measures to reduce airline delays over the holiday season, and new actions designed to reduce congestion in the New York area starting next summer.

 

FAA Wants Better Taxiway Markings at All Airports to Improve Safety
The FAA is proposing to extend its enhanced standards for taxiway centerline makings to all certificated airports to reduce the risk of runway incursions.  Simultaneously, the agency also is recommending regular recurrent driver training for all persons with access to the movement area and ramp areas at certificated airports.
