NATS Chooses Micro
Nav BEST ATC
Simulator for London
Heathrow
The UK National Air
Traffic Services (NATS)
chose Micro Nav to
supply a new ATC
training system for
London's Heathrow.
Micro Nav will
customize its
BEST
two-dimensional
tower and radar
simulator, which will be
used to meet the
requirements of a
number of new
operational
facilities and
procedures being
introduced at
Heathrow, including
a new control tower,
electronic flight
strips, and an A-SMGCS
(advanced surface
movement guidance
and control system),
among others.
The Heathrow
simulator will have
eight BEST
workstations with
multiple screens and
touch inputs to
closely match the
operating interfaces
of the controller's
real displays.
According to Micro Nav, they can be
configured to
perform different
controller roles,
such as, tower,
ground, supervisor
and radar approach.
And to meet
different training
needs, up to eight
different exercises
can be run
simultaneously, all
of which can be
recorded and
replayed for
debriefing and
evaluation.
Micro Nav also
supplied NATS with
BEST radar approach
and area simulators
for the College at
Hurn, Dorset, and
Swanwick’s new
en-route traffic
center. 12-11-2004.
