ARINC Showcasing NASA Small Airport Technologies
ARINC and other Maryland aviation interests will showcase several technologies being developed by NASA for small airports at a half-day event at the Easton Maryland Airport on June 16, between 9 AM and 12 noon. The public is invited.
The event is part of NASA’s Small Aircraft Transportation Systems (SATS) program, which among other things, is developing new technologies for enhanced operations at America’s non-tower airports. NASA says there are more than 5,000 of these “general aviation” airports in U.S. and thinks they should be better utilized.
Some of the technologies NASA is exploring, as a part of SATS, are digital communications, GPS-based low visibility approaches, aircraft-to-aircraft self-separation using new surveillance tools, and new ground automation that might allow “virtual towers” at airports that are currently uncontrolled.
The demonstration is part of the 2004 Maryland Airport Summit Conference in Easton that takes place of June 15. A pre-demonstration of SATS technologies will be presented after the conference in the airport terminal building on the evening of June 15. 05-22-2004.
