Meteorlogix Introduces Online Weather Briefing Service
Minneapolis-based Meteorlogix says it's introducing an online weather service that will allow subscriber pilots to use any Internet connection - including wireless - to receive complete briefings, file flight plans and get up-to-date weather information.
The new product, called MxVision AviationSentry Online, has a new Geographical Information Systems format that allows the user to build a base map containing important layers such as airports, navaids, airways and more, according to Meteorlogix. Once a custom map is created, a user can add relevant weather plots, such as radar, SIGMETs (significant meteorological information) and AIRMETs (airman meteorological information) as appropriate.
In addition, pilots will now be able to access a forward loop of radar imagery, called Future Radar, which allows them to see thunderstorms will be up to 90 minutes into the future and make plans for the best avoidance routing.
AviationSentry Online also carries a full suite of other briefing tools, including a quick plan feature for local flights.
Meteorlogix says the online service will soon be certified as a QICP (qualified Internet communication provider). 10-16-2004.
