British Airways Expands Its Use of Lufthansa Systems' Lido Flight
Planning
British Airways has
expanded its use of Lufthansa Systems' flight planning to its
entire fleet, covering all of its long and short haul operations.
The new Lufthansa System
Lido Operation Center (Lido
OC) completely replaces the old SWORD system previously used
by the airline. Lido OC’s functionalities and processes include
the automatic calculation of flight paths and the dissemination of
flight-related information such as weather data. Its calculation
of flight schedules also includes a number of additional functions
such as an automatic compensation for all current flight
restrictions.
One notable new feature of
Lido OC – still undergoing evaluation and implementation – is a
"traffic flow restriction" functionality, which automatically
takes into account changed air traffic regulations, when planning
routes, such as Eurocontrol’s RAD (route availability document).
Another innovation, which
Lufthansa Systems established for BA, is a crisis application that
enables Lido OC to provide the airline's operational managers
reliable data for safe route planning even in emergency
situations. 01-23-2004.
