Gulfstream Seeking Certification of Missile-Jamming System for More Models

Gulfstream Aerospace says it is seeking FAA certification of the BAE Systems AN/ALQ-204 Matador Infrared Countermeasure system (IRCM) on its Gulfstream 550 (G550) and Gulfstream G500 (G500) business jet aircraft.  The General Dynamics’ company plans to offer the IRCM – which was developed to protect aircraft from heat-seeking missiles – as an option on those aircraft beginning in June.

The Matador IRCM has been available as an option on both the Gulfstream G400 and the Gulfstream G300 aircraft since they were introduced at last year's National Business Aviation Association's Annual Meeting.  The system was first certified by the FAA for use on the Gulfstream IV (GIV) in 2000, and the IRCM continues to be available as a retrofit on GIV and the GIV-SP, Gulfstream says.

To date, the system has been installed on one GIV and six GIV-SPs, according to Gulfstream.  Two more systems have been backordered for the  G400, which currently are in production and will be delivered later this year.  02-14-2003.

BAA Deploys New Employee ID System at Seven UK Airports

UK-based BAA (British Airports Authority) will deploy Imaging Automation’s iA-thenticate to validate airport employee identification documents, and to maintain a database of each employee's photo and personal reference information.

The system determines whether or not a document is authentic, if it is expired, if it has been tampered with, or if the photo or text matches any government watch lists of criminals or terrorists.  Imaging Automation says iA-thenticate can perform multiple security checks in seconds and can be  integrated with other technologies, such as biometrics.

BAA will deploy the system initially at London’s Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted, as well as, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Southampton airports.  Eventually, the system may be installed at BAA’s Australian and U.S. airports as well.  02-07-2003.
