WSI Corporation Offering New Datalink Weather System Series
WSI Corporation is offering a new series of datalink weather systems that will
enable operators and owners to receive both WSI's aviation weather content plus
radio entertainment.
The new
InFlight AV-300 series has the same approximate footprint as the current
AV200 system, and both its antenna and receiver have been awarded TSO (technical
standard order) authorization from the FAA.
Jim Menard, WSI aviation business group's general manager, said that when the decision was
made to transition over to a new satellite network, the company needed to design
new hardware, which allowed it to make the improvements found in new models.
These include expanded satellite coverage, a more robust platform to host future
product enhancements and the ability to tune into radio entertainment.
WSI says the AV-300 series can be used "with a host" of MFDs (multi-function displays), EFBs
(electronic flight bags) and portable displays. The manufacturer's suggested
retail price for the AV-300 receiver and antenna is $4,347, plus installation; MSRP for the AV-350 receiver plus antenna is $5,949 plus installation. Weather
data service plans for both systems start at $29.99 per month.
