Universal WAAS-FMS Certified on Falcon 20
Alternative Aviation Services has certified a single Universal Avionics Systems' WAAS (wide area augmentation system)-capable FMS
(flight management system) on a Falcon 20, enabling it to fly SBAS (space-based
augmentation system) approaches.
The Universal
UNS-1Fww WAAS-FMS upgrade on the business jet allows GPS to be used as the
primary means of navigation from takeoff through Category I precision
approaches. These approaches, which are denoted RNAV (area navigation) (GPS) on
approach plates, can use WAAS vertical guidance in lieu of barometric altitude
for LNAV (lateral navigation) and LNAV/VNAV (vertical navigation) approach
minima.
Universal says its new line of WAAS-capable FMS systems are supplemental-type certificated for
Part 23 and Part 25 aircraft and meets FAA TSO-C146b Gamma-3 and DO229D
certification criteria. They have been certified on multiple aircraft types,
including the King Air, Challenger, B-737 and Astra. 04-06-2008. |
