UAE Buys QinetiQ-COMSOFT ADS-B Ground Station
The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA)
of the United Arab Emirates has purchased a COMSOFT Quadrant ADS-B (automatic
dependent surveillance-broadcast) air traffic surveillance ground station as
part of its current air traffic control automation system upgrade. COMSOFT is
QinetiQ's ADS-B development, manufacturing and marketing partner.
The Quadrant
ADS-B ground station consists of an integrated sensor and antenna system
that receives 1090 MHz ES (extended squitter) signals. It is housed in an
autonomous, compact, self-contained installation that is suitable for even
remote outdoor locations because of its low-power consumption and
maintenance-free operation, COMSOFT says.
As part of its GCAA contract, COMSOFT will upgrade the UAE's
existing air traffic control system, including installation and integration of a
pilot Quadrant ADS-B system in the Abu Dhabi area before the end of the year.
The purpose is to allow the GCAA to gain pre-operational experience with this
surveillance technology and to define and validate operational standards for the
use of ADS-B in a mixed environment that includes radar. 06-30-2007. |
