Tokyo's Haneda Installs Lockheed Martin's Windshear Detection
The Japan Meteorological Agency has installed a Lockheed
Martin Coherent Technologies Doppler lidar (laser imaging detection and ranging)
system at the Tokyo International Airport, commonly known as Haneda.
The
WindTracer system detects hazardous low-level wind activity and alerts air
traffic controllers, who in turn can offer precise information to pilots during
takeoff and landing..
Dr. Stephen
Hannon, the director of Coherent Technologies' products group said his company
collaborated with the Kanematsu Corporation of Japan on the project.
