Thales's Topflight Passenger Satcom Ready for Use
Thales pronounced its
Topflight Satcom ready for commercial use on Airbus' fleet of single-aisle
passenger jets, following its successful testing during two five-hour flights
across Europe.
As a key part of its connectivity offering for
OnAir, Airbus developed what is called the Air Line Network Architecture,
which will allow passengers access to mobile services onboard - including personal
phones - just as they would on the ground, through TopFlight's satcom devices
and Inmarsat's satellite network.
Through an on-board mobile
base station, the OnAir system essentially creates an on-board GSM (global
system for mobile) network that routes calls and data via Inmarsat's I-4
geo-stationary satellites to and from networks on the ground. 06-23-2007. |
