Telenor Satellite Launches New Secure Networking Technology
Telenor Satellite Services, a subsidiary of
Telenor of Norway, has what it calls "the first in a series of secure networking
value added services" meant to help users to filter out security attacks and
unwanted Internet content when using satellite communications.
Telenor's
Terralink Secure Version 7.1 includes automatically updated anti-virus,
anti-spam, and intrusion (firewall) services, designed to stop unwanted traffic
and content coming to a user's satellite terminal before the content enters the
satellite portion of the end-to-end connection. The company says this differs
from client-installed firewalls and security programs running on the user's PC,
which can stop unwanted traffic after it has passed over the satellite portion
of the connection, and therefore results in a more efficient use of the
satellite link both in terms of throughput and cost.
The service is available to users of
Telenor's Terralink proprietary IP (Internet protocol) networking platform and
Global Points of Presence (PoP) Network. According to Telenor, Terralink also
allows its IP services to perform at a higher level of capability than
comparable communications offered by other providers, and because of the range
of its interconnect options, Terralink can guarantee up to 256 kbps bandwidth for
BGAN (broadband global area network) customers using IP streaming. In
addition, Terralink provides secure content since its data throughput can bypass
the public Internet.
Introductory Offer
While Telenor will normally make Terralink Secure available
through its network of global distribution partners for a monthly subscription
fee, it is waiving the fee for the first three months for each new BGAN, GAN, or
Fleet service activation through the end of 2007. 07-15-2007. |
