TSA Awards Smiths Detection Contract for New Checkpoint X-Ray System
The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) awarded Smiths Detection a US$21 million contract
for a new-technology X-ray machine that can automatically detect explosives and
liquids at passenger checkpoints.
Smiths describes its
aTiX (advanced threat identification X-ray) as a next-generation system,
whose major difference from currently-used equipment is its ability to take
multiple views of carry-on bags in a single pass, and in the same time it takes
with existing checkpoint X-ray systems. In addition, it has new software
algorithms that can help detect liquid explosives. 11-09-2007. |
