South Africa's Tambo Airport to Use Era Multilateration and ADS-B
O.R. Tambo International Airport (formerly Johannesburg) will
use Era's multilateration and
ADS-B (automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast)
system as well as Era's vehicle tracking to help improve its surface safety.
Era's
MSS system - including its
Squid transponder-based vehicle tracking system - will be integrated with
the airport's A-SMGCS (advanced-surface movement guidance and control system)
supplied by Siemens Limited, Industrial Solutions and Services, and its major
sub-contractor, Park Air Systems.
Tambo is planning to add a midfield terminal to improve its
airside maneuvering area, and its management decided that surface radar wasn’t
sufficient to ensure surface surveillance around the airport, especially during
the new construction.
Era already has a pilot wide-area and surface surveillance system
installed at Cape Town, and South Africa's ANSP (air navigation service
provider), Air Traffic & Navigation Services, recently decided to add additional
sensors to the system to extend its coverage to about 225 nautical miles from
the airport. 08-24-2007. |
