SkyEurope Working with Naverus to Prepare for RNP
Bratislava, Slovakia-based SkyEurope Airlines has engaged Naverus to assess its readiness to perform RNP
(required navigation performance) in anticipation of its commencing these
advanced operations with its fleet of fourteen B-737-700s.
RNP combines the accuracy of GPS, the capabilities of advanced aircraft avionics, and
tailored flight paths, to achieve more efficient and safe flight operations,
along with emission reduction. Since its initial success at allowing more
dependable and improved operations at airports with challenging terrain, RNP
operators are now showing how this technology and procedures can consistently
bring new efficiencies and reliability to
all types of airports.
Naverus has a "professional services team" which has been dispatched to SkyEurope to help the airline exam
RNP factors such as regulatory compliance, an evaluation of its specific
network-wide operational and safety enhancements, its forecasted financial
benefits, and an overview of its operational approval process. The
assessment also includes a flight crew survey which Naverus says also will
provide valuable input.
Peter Pelec, SkyEurope's flight operations manager, said, "We have already invested considerably in
equipping our young Boeing 737NG aircraft with the avionics necessary for RNP
operations and are working together with Naverus and Boeing on implementing this
exciting feature."
David Hathaway, Naverus' vice president of professional services, described his company's readiness assessment
as "the first step" in the implementation of a successful RNP program, which
involves departments throughout an airline's organization. 10-16-2007. |
