Singapore to Use Rockwell Collins eFlight Information with EFBs
Rockwell Collins
will work with Boeing to provide applications for class 3 EFBs
(electronic flight bags) on Singapore Airlines' B-777s, and will
implement a ground system to support information delivery between
the airline's fleet and its "back office" systems.
Singapore will
also install Rockwell Collins' class 1 EFBs on Singapore's B-747s.
(Class 3 EFBs are
considered installed equipment, while class 1 EFBs is considered
portable electronic devices. Class-3 EFBs can provide extensive
communication, navigation, and surveillance information; class-1
EFBs may be used as a source of supplemental information on the
ground and during flight.)
Singapore's goal
is to have a comprehensive electronic information management system
that can streamline its air-to-ground communications and more
efficiently update databases and manage the exchange of necessary
flight documents.
Rockwell Collins'
eFlight Solutions, which Singapore is adopting, can securely
exchange, process, store, and retrieve information among airborne
and ground equipment throughout the entire operational chain, using
real-time connections between an airline's aircraft and ground
operations center. The system also can be used to enhance passenger
services on the ground and in the air. 01-20-2006.
