Sikorsky Asks Honeywell to Develop SVS for Black Hawk Helicopters
Honeywell will develop a SVS
(synthetic vision system) for Sikorsky Aircraft's Black Hawk helicopter to help
its pilots land in so-called brownout conditions, caused by blowing sand. The
work will be part of the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's
Sandblaster program.
To accomplish its task of
designing and demonstrating a SVS for the Black Hawk that enhances pilot
situational awareness and reduces the workload, Honeywell says it intends to
integrate radar-based sensor information with terrain and obstacle data to
provide a three-dimensional view of the landing environment on a primary flight
display.
The synthetic image will be
overlaid with flight guidance cues as well as symbology indicating current and
predicted flight conditions, according to Honeywell officials. 06-23-2007. |
