Satcom Direct is offering a new cockpit datalink service that provides access to a set
of flight communication applications, via both terrestrial and satcom service
providers.
The service, called
FlightDeck Freedom,
uses VHF (very high frequency) as well as satcom via
Inmarsat
and
Iridium
networks that can work with
Honeywell AFIS
Rockwell Collins
RIU/CMU-4000,
Teledyne Controls
Telelink
and Universal Avionics
Unilink
datalink avionics systems. AirCell it will be offering FlightDeck Freedom as
well, probably by the end of this year.
Satcom Direct's data-communications applications include PDC (pre-departure clearance),
D-ATIS (digital-automatic terminal information service), text and graphical
weather, uplinked flight plans, flight tracking and text messaging, provided by
such partners as Universal Weather, Skyplan, and Air Routing International.
Satcom Direct says it also provides a customized EFB (electronic flight bag) communications application.
