SITA and Flight Explorer to Test Integrated Airline Operation Control Tool
SITA and Flight Explorer
(FE) are readying an integrated decision-support tool that will give
airlines the ability to track and communicate with their flights, through a
single computer screen. AirTran Airways will begin testing the system in
September.
Until now airline flight
dispatchers have been able to use Flight Explorer's ASD (aircraft situation
display) application to track their flights, and separately use SITA AIRCOM
datalink to communicate with pilots. But by integrating the two functions,
on one screen, SITA and FE believe dispatchers will have an even better way
to effectively manage their flights.
AirTran Airways, which
already separately uses both SITA's datalink and Flight Explorer's ASD, is
set to carry out the first tests of the new combined solution in September.
Flight Explorer says its
graphical flight-following software is used by over 85 percent of North
America's major airlines. SITA's
AIRCOM datalink has a network of 900 VHF stations in 160 countries as
well as satellite links that can be used to connect with flights in remote
areas.
SITA is integrating
Flight Explorer's ASD into its AIRCOM server which will give airlines a
turnkey method of implementing the tool into their AOC (airline operational
control) systems. 06-07-2007. |
