Row 44 Preparing to Introduce New Broadband Service for Airlines
Row 44 is preparing to
launch new broadband communications system that it describes as compatible
with a broad range of commercial aircraft types and sizes.
John Guidon, Row 44's
CEO, says his private, California-based
company intends to offer high-speed connectivity in the air has lagged
behind broadband services that one takes for granted on the ground. "With
Row 44's new broadband service, airline travelers can use their own WiFi
compatible devices in the cabin - at true broadband speeds," according to
Mr. Guidon.
The Row 44 system is based on Hughes technology and HughesNet broadband service that uses an
existing Ku-band satellite system.
When the product is available - in the first quarter of 2008 according to its Website - it will
provide 100 percent coverage of North America including Alaska through the
southernmost tip of Mexico. The company is planning to expand into Europe,
the Middle East, South America and Asia, and over the oceans, in later
phases. 04-27-2007. |
