Rockwell Collins Unveils Next Generation of Avionics for Business Jets

Rockwell Collins has unveiled a new generation of avionics for business jets that combines its current Pro Line 21 with other technological advancements, and is scalable from single-pilot to ultra-long-range aircraft.

The company says its new Pro Line Fusion avionics system will feature 15-inch diagonal LCDs (liquid crystal displays) working in concert with its head-up guidance systems (HGS), synthetic and enhanced vision, and graphical flight planning.  Voice recognition technology will be added in the future.

Pro Line Fusion's key features include:

  • Intuitive Control and Information Management. The system's 15-inch displays and advanced cursor-control HMI (human-machine interface) will facilitate point-and-click access to flight planning, aircraft performance monitoring and hazard avoidance.

  • A Synthetic-Enhanced Vision that integrates synthetically generated scenes with real-time enhanced vision imagery, displayed on head-down displays, to increase situational awareness in low-visibility conditions and unfamiliar territory.

  • Head-Up Guidance that incorporates Rockwell Collins' HGS (head-up guidance system) coupled with enhanced vision to enable instrument approaches down to 100 feet above ground level, under specified conditions. The system’s advanced active-matrix liquid crystal display technology overlays information such as the aircraft’s flight path, altitude symbols, and a wire-frame presentation of synthetic vision, on the outside scene in the pilot's forward field of view.

  • Rockwell Collin's MultiScan Weather Radar that can detect, analyze and displaying weather hazards up to 320 nautical miles ahead of the aircraft, includes MultiScan's automatic Geographic Weather Correlation and Predictive Overflight Protection.

  • A Traffic Surveillance System that integrates transponder, TCAS (traffic collision avoidance system) II, and traffic computer functions into a single unit, to reduce size, weight, power consumption, and antenna count.

  • An Information Management System that integrates a comprehensive aircraft maintenance system, aircraft database management capabilities, wireless connectivity, and access to aircraft manuals and documents, all of which can be presented on the system's main displays.

  • Growth capabilities designed to accommodate technologies such as CPDLC (controller pilot data link communications), RNP (required navigation performance) and self-separation.
