Rockwell Collins Purchases ARINC's Broadband Terminal Product Line
Rockwell Collins has purchased ARINC's SKYLink broadband terminal product line, and will sell and
support the equipment to large business jet operators under its eXchange brand.
ARINC Direct will continue to provide SKYLink's satellite service.
Rockwell Collins and ARINC first established a SKYLink
business relationship in October 2006.
ViaSat, which developed the SKYLink
broadband terminal based on its ArcLight spread spectrum technology, will
continue to manufacture the broadband terminal hardware and provide gateway and
network operations services to ARINC.
When coupled with
SKYLink's Ku-band service, Rockwell says eXchange will provide real-time,
two-way aircraft connectivity - including Wi-Fi - at true broadband speeds, up
to 3.5 Mbps, for all typical Internet and email functions. It describes eXchange
as "ideal" for installation on larger business jets such as Gulfstream's G550,
Dassault's F7X and Bombardier's Global Express.
Coverage for eXchange using the SKYLink service is available in North America, Europe and the
North Atlantic. Caribbean and partial South and Central American coverage will
be added in the first quarter of 2008. 12-18-2007. |
