PIA Will Trial Star Navigation's New Inflight Monitoring System Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will evaluate a new in-flight safety monitoring system from Star Navigation Systems Group Ltd., following the issuance of an operational STC (supplemental type certificate) from Transport Canada. Dale F. Sparks, Star Navigation's chief technology officer, said the STC is the final clearance needed by his company to begin full commercial operation of its TERRASTAR system in normal passenger revenue service. TERRASTAR continuously monitors selected avionics systems, instantly analyzes the data, and transmits them along with any incident alerts, via satellite and the Internet, to the operator, all in real time. According to Star Navigation, this is "the first system in the world" to feature this kind of proactive in-flight data analysis, monitoring and diagnostics. 09-01-2007. |
