Munich Airport's CDM Implementation Improving Efficiency
Munich airport, Germany's
air navigation service provider, DFS, and Eurocontrol, say they are
significantly improving efficiency by implementing CDM (collaborative
decision-making).
At a recently held workshop, the three European aviation entities testified that Eurocontrol's
Airport CDM project is delivering greater predictability and reduced taxi
times by 10% on average, which is saving €2.65 million in fuel per annum at
Munich alone, with a corresponding reduction in CO2 emissions.
Airport CDM endeavors to
share operational data in a transparent way between all operational players
to enhance the use of airport infrastructure and resources. In this case,
European airports are being integrated into the European Air Traffic
Management Network (EATMN) to inform others of their operational activity. Munich has already completed initial message exchange trials with Eurocontrol's CFMU (central flow management unit), and demonstrated positive
results by giving the CFMU more accurate departure planning information. Additional live operational trials were started in May between Munich and
the CFMU and will be expanded to Zurich and Brussels in coming months.
