Mexico Opens Air Traffic Flow Management Center
Mexico recently
opened an ATFM (air traffic flow management) command center to help
manage traffic at Cabo San Lucas and Cancun using the FAA's traffic flow
management system as its primary resource.
Cabo San Lucas and
Cancun are popular vacation areas during the winter months, with
extremely high volumes of traffic, and the FAA's command center has
already coordinated with Mexican authorities to run AFPs (airspace flow
programs) into those airports.
The implementation of
AFP procedures has significantly reduced airborne holding and resulting
delays, according to both Mexican and U.S. authorities. In addition,
traffic management complexity for the area control centers at Mazatlan,
Merida, and Houston has been reduced.
Mexico has also added
the FAA's
FSM (flight schedule monitor) view mode into its system to help
traffic managers and CDM (collaborative decision making) participants
balance airport demand and capacity, with a common situational
awareness. 05-28-2007. |
