Lufthansa Selects Thales/Smiths Aerospace FMS for New A340-600s
Lufthansa will install the
Thales/Smiths Aerospace FMS (flight management system) on 39 of its single-aisle
and long-range Airbus aircraft currently in service, plus all 42 of the new
A320s, A330s and A340-600s it has recently ordered. This decision follows the
German carrier's determination last year to equip its new A340-600 fleet with
the TopFlight system.
The
Airbus FMS has dual high-speed processors, a large memory capacity, a LCD
(liquid crystal display), and what Thales describes as unique software
functionalities - with superior flight planning flexibility (multi revision
temporary flight plan, undo function, improved DIR TO...), and upgraded display
functionality: "what you see is what you fly".
Smiths Aerospace was
officially acquired by GE Aviation in May of this year. 06-25-2007. |
