Louisville Airport's ASDE-X Now Operational
Louisville International Airport's ASDE-X (airport surface
detection equipment - model X), built by Sensis Air Traffic Systems, is now
operational, making it the ninth U.S. airport to have the safety system
officially functioning.
ASDE-X uses a combination of surface movement radar, transponder
multilateration and ADS-B (automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast) sensors
to provide air traffic controllers with an accurate picture of the location and
identity of aircraft and vehicles on the airport surface. In addition, the Sensis system has conflict detection and alerting technology, called Safety
Logic, which detects and alerts controllers to potential aircraft and vehicle
collision situations.
The FAA is in the process of deploying ASDE-X at 35 U.S. airports. 07-30-2007. |
