London Gatwick to Use Era's Vehicle Tracking System
NATS will use Era's Squid vehicle tracking units at London's Gatwick to support the airport's A-SMGCS
(advanced surface movement guidance and control system), which will go live this April.
Gatwick is the world's busiest single runway airport, and due to the number of surface movements in its
semi-compact area, NATS wanted to track vehicles in order to help ensure safety
by provide air traffic controllers with more complete surface situational awareness.
Era says its
Squid units are standards-compliant with ADS-B (automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast) transponders mounted on top
of airport vehicles, and work seamlessly with any A-SMGCS. The units constantly
and automatically transmit reliable vehicle locations to controllers in all
visibility and weather conditions. 02-06-2008. |
