Lockheed Martin to Upgrade Romanian Radars

The Romanian Ministry of Defense (MoD) has awarded Lockheed Martin a contract to upgrade five long-range AN/FPS-117 radars originally delivered to Romania in 1998 and 1999.  The radars are used for air traffic control and strategic air surveillance.

The AN/FPS-117 is an L-band, three-dimensional radar, with a solid-state design, that has a range out to 250 miles.  The upgrades are intended to extend the service lives of the radars for 15 to 20 years.  02-20-2007.
