Lockheed Martin Deploys Lidar Windshear System at Narita
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has deployed a Lockheed Martin Coherent Technologies' lidar (laser imaging detection
and ranging) windshear warning system at Tokyo's Narita International Airport. JMA installed its first Lockheed system at Tokyo's Haneda in 2006.
The
WindTracer system scans the approach and departure corridors of an airport, enabling air traffic controllers precise
and timely windshear hazard information to pilots when required.
Lockheed Martin collaborated with Japan's Kanematsu Corporation to add the interface necessary to
incorporate
Japanese into WindTracer's international speech capability. This interface makes
it possible for Lockheed Martin to quickly and easily add local languages to the
system,, thus expanding its use by airports throughout the world. 03-17-2008. |
