L2 Consulting Awarded STC for ICG Iridium Satcom on B-757s

The FAA has granted L2 Consulting Services a STC (supplemental type certificate) for its installation of International Communications Group's Iridium satcom system for B-757s.

The L2 STC is for ICG's ICS-120 single-channel communication system, and is applicable to B757-200s, 200PFs, 200CBs, and 300s.

In the cabin, the system provides a full range of the usual features including intercom calling, call transfer, conferencing and follow-on dialing. It accommodates credit card calling, digital echo suppression, store-and-forward fax service, and secure-voice operation as well.

In the cockpit, pilots can make voice calls by using a telephone dialer adapter. But the system also can be used for data communications because of the system's dedicated SBD (short burst data) transceiver, which ICG designed exclusively for ACARS (aircraft communications addressing and reporting system) communications.

The ICS-120 is also capable of satellite-based ACARS messaging, and is compatible with most CMU/DMU (communication and data management units), via the B-757's ARINC 429 data bus, which eliminates the need for any additional interface devices.  03-25-2007.
