L-3 Introducing a Class-2 EFB with Several New Applications
L-3 Communications is
introducing a class-2 EFB (electronic flight bag) with several novel
applications for business and regional airline users, as well as larger air
transports.
The EFB, which has been
developed as a collaborative effort by L-3 Display Systems (L-3 DS) and L-3
Aviation Recorders (L-3 AR), will include typical applications for
electronic navigation charts, flight and operational manuals, checklists and
other documentation. But in addition, it is being configured to host
several new applications, including the
L-3 CSS (cabin surveillance system), WSI Corporation's InFlight satellite weather system, the ACSS airport
SafeRoute SAMM (surface area movement management) system, and
L-3 s IRIS infrared enhanced vision system.
The EFB will use a
Microsoft Windows-based operating system and can be configured with either a
single or dual display unit, according to L-3.
L-3 DS will be
responsible for the EFB's design, manufacture and test and certification,
while L-3 AR will be responsible for its marketing, sales and support of the
EFB. They are planning to achieve a STC (supplemental type certification)
for its installation by the end of the year. 06-20-2007. |
