Kuala Lumpur to Use Era's Multilateration and ADS-B

Kuala Lumpur's international airport will use Era's multilateration and ADS-B (automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast) system and vehicle tracking units to monitor its surface traffic.

Era's MSS surveillance ground stations and Squid vehicle tracking units will be integrated with an updated A-SMGCS (advanced -surface movement guidance and control system)-ready system from Park Air Systems to extend airport coverage and to improve aircraft identification with additional automation and better all-weather surveillance, even during heavy rain.

One hundred Squid ADS-B vehicle transponders will be used in the project, which will allow controllers to track ground vehicles with the same displays and alerts as aircraft.  Coverage of the system has been designed to extend beyond the airport surface to enable monitoring of the approach areas as well, Era says, in order to provide for future parallel runway monitoring.  07-15-2007.
