Jetstar Gains RNP Approval for Its A320s
Jetstar recently received approval from Australia's Civil Aviation Safety
Authority (CASA) to conduct RNP (required navigation performance) operations
with its A320s.
The low-cost airline, based in Melbourne, submitted an application to CASA in
late 2007, outlining its RNP program and its plans to conduct RNP 0.3
operations. CASA's approval will allow Jetstar to implement an all-weather RNP
capability in phases, starting initially at Australia's Gold Coast and Brisbane
airports.
The Brisbane trial is demonstrating how RNP users can be integrated into busy
terminal operations where the majority of users are non-RNP capable, and still
gain RNP benefits.
Naverus assisted Jetstar with its approval process and has designed RNP procedures tailored for its fleet's
specific operating capabilities. These
procedures offer shorter paths with built-in continuous descents that can provide efficiency and capacity
improvements beyond those available from the RNAV (area navigation) arrivals
being used there. 01-30-2008. |
