Jeppesen Offering Flight Planning via Mobile Phones and PDAs

Jeppesen is offering a new subscription service that brings flight planning and other information to smart phones and PDAs (personal digital assistants).

The new Jeppesen Mobile application, developed by its partner, Hilton Software, consolidates preflight, inflight and post-flight information, and related functionalities, into an integrated package that includes FAA DUATS (direct user access terminal service support) for weather briefings and flight-plan filing. The annual subscription also includes:

  • Jeppesen QICP (qualified internet communications provider)-certified graphical weather images.

  • TFR temporary flight restriction data sorted by state and time.

  • Color-coded METARs.

  • TAFs terminal area forecasts, winds aloft and graphical trend charts.

  • An airport facilities directory and JeppGuide information with one-touch dialing for FBOs (fixed base operators) and other services.

  • FARs (federal flight regulations) with Jeppesen explanations.

  • A weight and balance calculator.

The initial release will cover the continental U.S. The application suite (including a full year of update services) is priced at $169. Subscription renewals after the first 12-months of service are $129 per year. Updates are delivered automatically and wirelessly directly to one's mobile device.
