Horizon Air Using HGS for Lower Landing Minimums at Great Falls
The FAA approved Horizon Air's use of its Rockwell Collins HGS (head-up guidance
system) at Great Falls, Montana, which allows the airline to take advantage of
the airport's new Category III landing minimums.
HGS-equipped aircraft landing on Great
Falls' CAT III Runway 3 need only 700 feet of RVR (runway visual range) for CAT
IIIa as opposed to 1800 RVR required for other aircraft using CAT I minimums, or
1200 RVR for operators approved for CAT II.
Horizon says it is the only passenger carrier serving Great Falls that operates HGS-equipped aircraft. The
airline's entire fleet of Bombardier CRJ-700s, Q400s and Q200s is equipped with
the system. 10-26-2007. |
